As their motto says this is the stop all/end all of your all time gaming experience. So they say. One Console, 10 Systems, 1000s of Classics, as they have boasted on their website. Hyperkin is very proud of their Retron 5 console that plays thousands of games across multiple formats. Does the system stand up against all the hype? Is it worth its $379 price tag?
The Retron 5 is a system that plays games from old game cartridges such as Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and the original NES. The system emulates the graphics from the games. It does actually show the games true to form. What I mean is that it is still the same game but since you have a modern TV such as a LCD TV your classic games will not totally look as they did back in the day. Why, you ask? That's because the games were mad to be viewed on old school CRT TVs and those are now out of commission.
So why are they trying to get us to buy this system at $379? It's kind of an odd price for a classic gaming system. Not only is it odd it is extremely high when you compare to today's modern systems such as a PS4 or Xbox One. I wouldn't even put this third in my category of game systems to get. I'll get a Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and an old school Xbox before I think about the Retron 5.
I have played emulated games on my PC with emulators for years and I've yet to spend any money. You can download the emulator and roms freely without having to pay the price of your car, light, or cable payments depending on where you go. To me, they're all the same. To gaming purists emulation is just not the same. To me, anytime I can save money and still play some Super Mario, with out having to decide between that and paying my light bill, I'm happy. Take a look at the review. So what do you guys think? Yeah or nah?
